2026 National Spearfishing Championships

So we put together Team MSA for the first time ever! Our guide Keoki and one of my closest dive buddies Luke went off to Waikoloa, Big Island, for the National Spearfishing Championships. Nearly 100 competitors from all over the nation competed in a 6 hour tournament of who could shoot the most invasive species. 1 point per fish, and one point per pound. Last time the nationals came to Hawaii in 2023, I was able to shoot the second most fish and with the weight taken into account I got 5th place. Considering the unbelievable line-up of top level spearfishermen, I was happy to make the top-5 podium.

This year ended up just a bit better! After a GRUELING paddle back and just barely making it in time to the finish line, I was able to secure the most fish in the tournament (51)! Though they didn't weigh as much as some of my competetors, so I ended up 4th place overall. What was even more exciting, is MSA guide Keoki came in 5th place, which is quite unbeleiveable considering it was not only his first nationals, but his first spearfishing tournament ever. While we knew he was good, it is now certified that he is one of the most able spearfishermen in Hawaii.

Above is when we went up on stage for the top individual scores. Congrats to Justin Lee who had both the winning strategy, and the winning accuracy. Nick Bailey and Ryan Meyers were 2nd and 3rd respectively, though couldn't make it to indiviual awards ceremony as they had flights to catch.

Special Mahalo to Calvin Lai and the volunteers for making another AMAZING event and blessing us with lifelong memories. And of course to Luke and Keoki who I had the absolute pleasure of diving with. Together we made Team MSA become the second place team in the Nation!!
